Fatal Residential Fire Near Lebanon Claims One Life, Two Family Pets

An early morning residential fire in rural Lebanon claimed the life of one person and two family pets Thursday, October 15, according to the Lebanon Rural Fire Protection District.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 18500 block of Deer Run Road at approximately 3 a.m. following reports of a residential structure fire with a possible occupant trapped inside.
Upon arrival, emergency crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters immediately began an exterior attack, quickly knocking down flames in a bedroom before entering the home to search for the missing occupant.
During their search, firefighters located the occupant on a bed inside the bedroom. Unfortunately, the individual was deceased. Two dogs were also discovered in the bedroom and did not survive the fire.
Another occupant of the residence, along with other family pets, was able to escape without injuries.
Despite the loss of life, firefighters successfully contained the flames to the bedroom and a small portion of the hallway, preventing the fire from spreading throughout the remainder of the residence. However, the home sustained extensive heat and smoke damage.
Fire Determined to Be Accidental
The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to investigate the cause of the fire.
Following the investigation, officials determined the fire was accidental.
The identity of the deceased occupant was not released in the information provided by the fire district.
